What to do with all of these cats???

Ugh.  So I have a small problem.  A small problem that has turned BIG!  Almost exactly a year ago a stray cat wandered up to my father in laws property.  We decided to help them out (BIG MISTAKE) and take the cat to the SPCA in Houston for them.  We already had 2 cats of our own and were not in the marker for a third.  Well we get to the SPCA and nope, they won’t take her.  They are at capacity they say.  Every place we called or went to was either closed or not taking any cats.  Unsure of what to do, we take her home and let her live on our back patio until we figure out what to do next.  We didn’t want to take her somewhere that had a chance of euthanizing her.  Turns out she was pregnant.  I do not know if she was pregnant when we got her or became pregnant afterwards.  So, we decide to keep her until she has the babies (still hadn’t found a place to take her anyways.).  She has 4 kittens.  Second huge mistake, I bring them inside to live and be protected from the dangers of outside.  It was disgusting.  Already had 2 cats inside.  Now we bring in a feral cat and her 4 kittens.  They almost died after birth, umbilical cords were knotted together.  Then the runt wasn’t eating so I had to buy formula and feet by bottle an syringe, along with help it poop and keep it on a heating pad.  Another had a skin infection.  Then a third had an inner ear infection preventing it from hold his head straight.  Had to bottle feed that guy for a few days and take him to the vet ($$$) a couple times for fluid shots.

We find homes for 2 of the 4 kittens.  We move to a new house.  At this point I do not let the cats inside of my house.  Shortly after we move, guess what??  Stray mama cat is pregnant again.  I know I know.  We should have gotten her fixed.  We were on a very tight budget at the time and in the middle of moving AND she was nursing her babies. I most certainly didn’t want to bottle feed a whole litter of kittens.  So she has a second litter. 3 kittens this time.  Unwilling to let her inside of my house we let them sleep in the garage at night so that large animals don’t eat the babies.  Gross.  Having 6 cats live in our garage, even if it was just at night was a really bad idea.  Still trying to find homes for these cats, mind you!  We are able to find homes for 2 of the new kittens.  So now 4 cats outside, living in our garage.   I have called multiple places, nobody says they will take cats.  Except somehow you see on the facebook pages of these locations that they are having tons of adoptions.  I even had a breakdown on the phone with the Houston SPCA one day when they refused to give me numbers to other local area shelters.

People this is exactly why animals are just dropped off on the side of the road!!  I would never do that but I totally understand why someone would.  We have been caring for all of these extra cats for nearly a year now.  And one of our original house was injured and had the have a leg amputated.  And a flea infestation last summer.  We have spent a ton of money on these cats.  They have got to go at this point.  Yesterday, we stopped letting them sleep in the garage at night.  It is ruining our garage and our life.  I don’t know what to do with them!  One side of me is saying “just take them to the dang animal shelter!”  But the other side of me is saying “they will be sad, and miss you and what if they get put to sleep or what if someone mean adopts them and blah blah blah.”  The last baby has a skin infection of sorts and the Humane Society won’t take her because of that.  I really don’t know what to do at this point.  As a cat lover it is a big deal to say “I don’t like cats right now”.  What would you do in this situation?  Pay to have them all fixed?  (currently 4) and keep them?  Or take them to a shelter (even if they kill)????    I have been keeping these cats for this long simply because I feel “bad” for them.  I am only really attached to one of them.   Is that really fair to the cats?  Shouldn’t they go to a home where they are loved to the max???  We cannot afford to take 6 cats to the vet for checkups!!  And flea treatments for 6 cats?!?

Crawfish

Back in May I had the pleasure of making my little cousin’s sweet 16 cake for her party. They were having a crawfish boil so I thought a crawfish cake would be appropriate! It was actually a pretty easy cake. The hardest part, of course, was getting the red color right. In the end it wasn’t the shade I was looking for but I ran out of time!!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Fall…

Well the weather has been cooling off around here for the past week or so.  It has been great.  Last week we actually went three whole days and nights without ever turning on the AC!!  How great is that!  Hopefully we will see some savings on our next bill. (yeah right.)

A lot of great things have been happening here lately.  My youngest, Jacob is now walking!  He took his first steps about a month ago…around 9mths old.  And now (10 months old tomorrow) he has starting walking A LOT.  He is so funny.  When he falls he gets so mad and starts grunting and screaming.

My middle child, Claire, has taken to the potty quite well in the past two days!  She hasn’t worn diaper for two whole days and has only had one accident!  I am so proud of her and sooo sooo excited to not have to change anymore diapers! (for her, at least.)

My oldest, Bradley is doing so good in school.  He has really grown an interest in writing.  He has been making lots of books and I just love looking at him and all the ways that he is spelling the words. I am impressed!
Here are some pictures of my precious babies!

I love this picture of Claire.  I love her feet in the flip flops.

Sweet baby Jacob.

Handsome Bradley.

Dining Room Makeover

We have lived in this house for almost a year now and until recently had no furniture in the dining room!  And I don’t know about y’all but empty rooms in my house collect clutter!  Things would just mysteriously appear in the vacant room.  More and more stuff would pile up.  But now, we have a full dining set!

We bought a used table with 6 chairs and a buffet server.  It is just what I was wanting, dark wood with black seats.  It looks great in the room.  Maybe because it is the actual table that was in the room when we first saw this house nearly a year ago!  Yep! That’s right!  We became friends with the people we bought the house from, they moved and sold their table.  So, it is back home where it belongs. hehe.

I am having so much fun decorating the walls.

The sconces:

(sorry for the bad lighting of the pic 🙂 )

I had this fork, knife and spoon hanging on some hooks in my kitchen but I think they are pretty fitting for the dining room, don’t you?

I LOVE this little group of decor!  The box/shelf/frames (?) were given to me and I already had the figurines in a box just waiting for a home!

I could not center them onto the wall because when the door is open it takes up most of the wall.  So, I centered it from the edge of the open door to the corner of the wall:

When the door is open the boxes are no longer centered (okay, maybe I have a slight issue with things being centered) so I am gonna put a vinyl word vertically alongside of the tall box.  Then it will always be centered and the world will be a happy place!

I am not sure what word I will choose, yet.  Maybe LOVE? I dunno…

I will post more pictures of my new dining room tomorrow!

I’ll leave you with a question.  What would you do with this piece?  I am thinking a nice coat of spray paint is in order but should it go inside or outside?  Something is telling me inside but I am not sure exactly where I will put it yet.  Send your ideas my way!

Goodwill Finds!

Well, this is my very first post so I think I will start off by talking about my awesome time at Goodwill today!

It was my first time to go to the new-ish local Goodwill!  It was much bigger than I expected!

I found this neat basket for $3!  Some artificial fruit or some of those decorative balls would look nice in it.

Then I came across this for .79!  (without the lemons) Can you believe it!  I have been wanting one.  I may or may not paint it black. I like the gold color because it matches the gold in my countertops.

I also got a nice treasure box for Bradley, my oldest son.  He loves to collect little trinkets and such so I thought that would be a nice Christmas gift!

I think this may replace my obsession of searching for Target clearance deals!  I can’t wait to go back!
